Better Sprouts is committed to nutrition education and to food safety.
Founded in 1995, West Australian owned Better Sprouts is one of two producers and wholesalers of fresh sprouts in Western Australia.
Initially established to grow alfalfa sprouts, in the early nineties the company identified a growing demand for healthy food in the consumer market. In response to this demand, Better Sprouts expanded its single product offering to provide snow peas and bean shots.
Later, Better S[routs expanded further to provide a growing line of packaged food, roasted sesame seeds in assorted flavours and salad croutons.
In 2000 Better Sprouts acquired Chloe Foods and core operations are now situated in premises in O’Connor South of Perth.
Better Sprouts has advanced producing facilities with the aid for the latest sprout growing equipment in a food safe environment. Major customers are wholesalers, franchising, supermarkets and large independent retailers.
As an industry leader, Better Sprouts is committed to nutritional education and to food safety. This commitment is highlighted by HACCP accreditation, recognised the company’s’ use of a Food Safety Management System for growing, packaging and distribution of sprouting seeds in Australia.
Better Sprouts received the WA Department of Health Nutrition Award in 2003.
The 2003 Awards were developed by the Department of Health in collaboration with the Western Australian School Canteen Association, Curtin University of technology and the Food Technology Association of WA.
A panel of highly qualified food industry people judges these annual awards and products must meet strict nutrition and food safety criteria.
The WA Nutrition Awards recognise local food producers, manufacturers and marketers committed to providing consumers with healthy low fat and nutritious food products allowing the winner to brand their goods with the WA Healthy Department logo from then on.
The Awards encourage manufacturers to produce healthier products. The winners of the awards are providing healthy choices for consumers and helping address obesity and overweight issues.
Better Sprouts was a winner in the General New Food category for its sprouted Bean Salad,sprouted Mixed Salad and Roasted Sesame Mix (eight flavours).
Better Sprouts proprietor Herb Bossence said he was very proud of his business and its achievements.
